Ever wondered how some people have really good looking desktops? Are you bored from basic Windows styles? Well if so, this tutorial is for you!
First of all, there are several software which helps you change your desktop:
1) Objectdock - ObjectDock is a program that adds a
skinnable dock to your Windows desktop. It is one of the most popular
desktop enhancement programs available.
Objectdock includes:
a) Weather Docklet - When you mouse over the weather icon, it shows you your 5 day outlook.
b) Imports Quick Launch - Automatically imports your quick launch and pinned taskbar items for easy access.
c) Special Effects - Mouse over effects like magnify, swing, glow and bubble.
d) New screens & menus - Objectdock’s configuration screens are simple and straight forward as possible, especially when configuring multiple docks.
This is in free version of Objectdock. But if you want more, you can always buy the Plus version.
More information here.
2) Rainmeter - Rainmeter displays customizable skins, like memory and battery power,
RSS feeds and weather forecasts, right on your desktop. Many skins are
even functional: they can record your notes and to-do lists, launch your
favorite applications, and control your media player - all in a clean,
unobtrusive interface that you can rearrange and customize to your
liking. Rainmeter is at once an application and a toolkit. You are only
limited by your imagination and creativity.
More information here.
3) Fences - Fences is a program that helps you organize your desktop and can hide your icons when they are not in use. It also helps you clean & organize your desktop by creating shaded areas which become movable and sizable containers for your icons. Double
click blank spaces on your desktop and all your fences will fade out, and back.
It has a free version and Pro version, which includes more features.
More information here.
3) Next, you should visit a website where you can find lots of skins for the program you just downloaded. The website is here.
4) Find a suitable wallpaper for you
5) Hide your taskbar by right click -> properties on your taskbar
6) Delete icons from your taskbar if using Objectdock.
7) Add configurations in Rainmeter to your liking.
And you are done. Here's my desktop:
